The government’s new measures to provide more predictable electricity bills have been adopted. From October 1, 2025, households and holiday homes can choose between the current electricity support scheme and a new government support scheme, Norgespris.
Norgespris is a new government subsidy scheme that gives you a fixed electricity price of NOK 0.50 per kWh (incl. VAT) throughout the year. You can choose between keeping the current electricity subsidy or switching to Norgespris.
In the same way as with the electricity subsidy, the grid companies are responsible for administering the scheme. The scheme applies to both households and holiday homes, and applies to electricity consumption up to:
- 5,000 kWh per month for households
- 1,000 kWh per month for holiday homes
How to order Norgespris:
- You must order the Norwegian price yourself on Elhub
- The ordering solution will open at the end of September 2025
- The scheme enters into force on October 1, 2025
- You can book any time after opening, you will get a start date from the day you book, the binding period is until 31.12.2026.
How does it work?
Every month, the spot price is compared with the Norwegian price:
- If the spot price is higher, you get your money back.
- If the spot price is lower, you pay the difference.
You will receive this amount as a deduction/surcharge on your grid rental invoice in the same way as the electricity support scheme works today.
Commitment period and relocation
If you choose Norgespris, you commit to the scheme until 31.12.2026. You can’t return to electricity support during this period, but you have a 14-day right of withdrawal after ordering. Norgespris follows the electricity meter, so if you move, the agreement will continue in your home until the end of the commitment period.
You must still have an electricity contract
Norgespris does not replace the electricity agreement you have with your electricity supplier, you keep the electricity agreement you have today.
You’re still paying:
- Grid rent and public charges
- Surcharges and the monthly amount in the electricity agreement
What should I choose – the Norwegian price or the current electricity support scheme?
- We have compared the two different support schemes in the price area NO2, which is the area that all our customers have.
- These are historical figures from 2024, we must emphasize that we do not know anything about future spot prices.
Annual consumption | Norwegian price | Today’s electricity support | Difference |
---|---|---|---|
10000 kWh | 3290 | 1240 | 2050 |
20000 kWh | 6350 | 2400 | 3900 |
30000 kWh | 9350 | 3300 | 6050 |
The calculations are based on the average spot price in NO2 over the last twelve months. The difference shows that you would pay less by choosing the Norwegian price, regardless of your annual consumption. But if, for example, you use the most electricity when the price is low, the results may look slightly different – because the average electricity price is lower.
